Two videos from Minnesota ICE killing

Two videos from Minnesota killing, one with man screaming, the other from a distance. Are they the same person?

Yes, based on multiple video analyses of the January 24, 2026 shooting in south Minneapolis, the footage showing a man wrestling with agents and the distance footage are of the same person.
The victim has been identified by sources as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident.
Overview of the Videos
Multiple videos capture different perspectives of the encounter near Nicollet Avenue and 26th Street:
  • The "Wrestling" / Screaming Video: This close-up footage shows several federal agents (identified as Border Patrol or ICE) wrestling a man onto a sidewalk. The man is heard screaming, “I am a United States citizen! I have done nothing wrong! Are you going to kill me?”.
  • The Distance Video: Footage taken from a distance or higher vantage point shows the broader struggle and the subsequent shots being fired. Witnesses and analysts confirm this view shows the same struggle involving the same man and agents.
  • The Shooting: In both perspectives, agents are seen striking the man before at least one agent fires multiple shots at him while he is on the ground.
Conflicting Accounts
  • Department of Homeland Security (DHS): Claimed the man was an "armed suspect" who approached agents with a 9mm handgun and "violently resisted" efforts to disarm him.
  • Local Officials & Witness Video: Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara stated the man was a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry. Mayor Jacob Frey and other officials noted that video evidence appears to show the man holding a phone, not a gun, during the initial struggle.
This incident follows the January 7, 2026 killing of Renee Good by federal agents in the same city, which also involved conflicting video evidence.
